Royal Enfield enthusiast Peter Francon has been living in India and Nepal for the last six years researching, riding and planning a range of exciting and adventurous road tours for classic bike enthusiasts worldwide.

Now 50 - he gave up his computer training business in the East Midlands seven years ago to combine his twin passions of India and classic Royal Enfield motorbikes - Peter has been running tours for three years now that cover some of India's - and Nepal’s, most dramatic terrain.

Simla to Leh is a 15 day ride that starts just south of Manali near Simla the capital of Himachal Pradesh, passing over the seemingly impassable ranges of the Great Himalaya and on to Leh, almost as far north as one can travel into India’s Himalaya. As Francon says, “It’s about endless roads snaking up impossibly distant mountains. As we travel, we’ll create a really unique ‘three mile high club’ because we cruise to 18,500 feet to Khardung La Top, the world’s highest motorable road. Riding to Leh is about the highest roads in earth. So high it can be hard to breathe. Not for the faint hearted the tours are tough, tiring but the rewards deliver the experience of a lifetime.”

On Tour in N India's region of Ladakh.A longer route takes Riders – for 21 days, further across Ladakh into the remote region of Zanskar; cut off from the outside world for more than 6 months of the year. The tour finally arrives in the silver Vale of Kashmir to stay on Srinagar’s peaceful lakes in the world famous Kashmir houseboats. For riders looking for the ‘ultimate off-road experience by Bullet’ this is your tour. Wildlife, spectacular scenery and mountains, wild rivers, glaciers like motorways of ice and the challenge of India’s pioneering highways deep in the Himalayas.

A third route takes Riders up the powerful Satluj river from the seat of an ancient kingdom through Kinnaur past the unique architecture of ancient Hindu temples – mingled with Buddhism, into a world as yet largely undiscovered. Remote hidden villages become fewer and smaller as we climb the Spiti River to its source and drop down to a rugged uninhabited valley where camping is the only option to relax and immerse ourselves in complete isolation from the world.

This research Tour ended up in the Anderman IslandsChoose from two or three week tours to suit your holiday plans, with schedules designed to suit India’s top class airline www.JetAirWays.com to give you best value, comfort and convenience to arrive in India for a Royal Enfield Tour of a lifetime.

Other tour routes take in South India’s beaches and numerous national parks, through hill stations, coffee and tea plantations, exploring mind-blowingly vast temple complexes, from Rajasthan to Kerala.

Note: Some tours however are so long, the ride so extended, that a break has to be taken. One such ride ended in Chennai at the end of February several years ago now. I had been touring with Russian friends and we decided to head east across the Bay of Bengal to the Anderman and Nicobar Islands. Here I can be seen tinkering in the engine room of the small ship that took us from Port Blair to Long Island, a sailing of several hours. What followed was a pure 'Crusoe Experience', 4 weeks in a hammock on beautiful deserted tropical islands.

Peter now lives and works in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, with his wife and daughter.
