Daniel Lambert was born in Leicester on March 13th 1770. His family were of country stock - gamekeepers, huntsmen and field sportsmen. His uncle was gamekeeper to the Earl of Stamford, and his great-uncle was huntsman to the earl of Stamford.

Daniel's father, John Lambert, was the keeper of the County Bridewell or House of Correction in Highcross St. John Lambert had another son who died young and two daughters. Daniel never married and died childless. Daniel Lambert

Robert of Ketton (Latin: Robertus Ketenensis) (1110? - 1160?) was an English medieval theologian, astronomer and Arabist.

Ketton, where Robert was either born or perhaps first took holy orders, is a small village in Rutland, a few miles from Stamford.

John George HaighJohn George Haigh (24 July 1909 - 10 August 1949), nicknamed the "Acid Bath Murderer", was an English serial killer during the 1940s. He was convicted of the murders of six people, although he claimed to have killed a total of nine, dissolving their bodies in concentrated sulphuric acid before forging papers in order to sell their possessions and collect substantial sums of money.

He acted under the mistaken belief that police needed a body before they could bring a charge of murder. He was convicted through forensic evidence and executed.

Norman Colin Dexter, OBE, (born 29 September 1930 in Stamford, Lincolnshire) is an English crime writer, known for his Inspector Morse novels. Colin Dexter

Dexter was educated at Stamford School, where his brother, John Dexter, had been before him and went on to teach at Kings School, Peterborough. After completing his National Service with the Royal Corps of Signals he read classics at Christ's College, Cambridge, graduating in 1953 and receiving an honorary Masters Degree in 1958.

William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley (sometimes spelled Burleigh) (13 September 1520 - 4 August 1598),KG was an English statesman , the chief advisor and good friend of Queen Elizabeth I for most of her reign (17 November 1558-24 March 1603), twice Secretary of State (1550-1553 and 1558-1572) and Lord High Treasurer from 1572.
